I felt like a kid going to the zoo for the first time. I never really liked zoos as I cannot stand seeing animals penned up. However, it's been years and years since I last visited a zoo and I didn't feel so bad this time around. It was the last day of September 2007 when I visited the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo in Colorado Springs, Colorado. I went with a friend of mine and her two daughters — they are devout zoo members and visit often. So it seemed as though I had my own personal tour guides.
I brought along my new digital camera and took close to one hundred photographs. The entire zoo seems to resemble the animals' natural habitats as closely as possible. Being from Africa myself, I was delighted to see the likes of kudu, elephant, meerkat, and hippos. Of course this zoo is famous for its giraffe — there are lots of them, and by far the cutest thing was the baby giraffe standing with its mother. The other thing that I got to see was the baby orangutan that was being taken care of by one of the zoo crew. Absolutely darling. I had a glorious day exploring the animals and taking photographs, and I look forward to returning often. I've posted a few of my photographs for you to enjoy - click on these thumbnails for larger pictures.
