Antipasti - Fabulous Appetizers and Small Plates
by Joyce Goldstein
Chronicle Books
ISBN 0-8118-4872-8
Published April 2006 - Softcover - 168 pages - $19.95

I fondly recall a few antipasti I enjoyed in Sorrento, Italy, many years ago.  The fabulous Joyce Goldstein has put together a wonderful selection of antipasti which you can enjoy either as snacks with drinks, a prelude to a meal, or as a meal in themselves.  She covers Eggs and Cheese; Savory Pastries; Grains; Vegetables; Fish and Shellfish, and Meat and Poultry.  Do read her informative pages 11-15 - it's always a good idea to read up on what you're about to make, so that at least you'll sound more knowledgeable than you were about what it is you're making - antipasti in this case.  I fancied these recipes to try for myself: Meat-Filled Omelet Roll (even though I'm not good at omelets); Butternut Squash Pie; Marinated Mushrooms; Lobster Salad with Pesto; Tuna in a Sweet-and-Sour Onion Marinade (other fish options are given), and Potato Cakes with Smoked Fish and Caviar.  All recipes are paired with wines.  If that's not enough, there are over 75 antipasti ideas on pages 17-25 using store-bought ingredients.  So, whether you're looking for something meaty, eggy, fishy, veggie, or cheesey, you're bound to find something suitable in this book for your table.
Partially illustrated.  No nutritional guides.
Conclusion - Full of good ideas for entertaining.  None are too complicated to make.
