Being a lover of travel and of photography, this book was a no-brainer. Not everyone can make it to the small towns as tourists are usually headed off to the larger cities. This husband and wife team (Tony and Eva Worobiec) offer us their compilation of photographs they took between 2004 and 2007 on different trips in the USA, and they cover: Across the High Plains; Follow the Yellow Brick Road; Over the Rockies to the Prairies; Route 66, through New Mexico and Arizona, and the Southwestern Desert. They say, "We have chosen to photograph during the twilight hour, that mystical period when day becomes night and the neon quietly appears. This work is an attempt to celebrate those iconic beacons which epitomize the American dream, in the hope that they never become just a fading memory." So, their photographs are of 50s style diners, cars, buildings, motels, neon signs and such. Lots of neon and retro places which look like so much fun and are still around to this day. For me, a non-American, seeing these icons on my travels really made an impact. Photos I particularly loved include those on pages 18, 50, 77, and 110 (a fabulous picture). This is the kind of book I'm itching to do.
Conclusion - A great coffee table book full of delightful "memories."
