Hamburgers & Fries - An American Story
by John T. Edge
G.P. Putnam's Sons
ISBN 0-399-15274-1
Published June 2005 - Hardcover - 193 pages - $19.95

I have no doubt this book will alter your perception of the humble hamburger.  Just reading how people have evolved the basic hamburger to haute cuisine, was astonishing.  Author John T. Edge has recipes and stories from across the country, from regular and upscale joints, refashioned burgers to try yourself.  Or not.  I really don't fancy a burger topped with foie gras I have to say.  I don't mind a "Chile Buzzburger" or an "I Love Jucy Lucy" burger.  Mr. Edge traveled all over the country sampling burgers and collecting stories and recipes which makes for a delightful account of food and travel.  There are more burger recipes and recounts than there are on fries.  I loved Gyula Décsy's theory on the origin of the hamburger - makes sense.  Mr. Edge's writing is very entertaining, and oh, you're going to need a dictionary handy - zillions of "big" words.  Visit Mr. Edge's website.
Conclusion - Beautifully written.
