I know I am going to have to read this book again, making notes in a notebook as I go. Expecting to understand what each of the 78 tarot cards mean in one reading, is not easy. Renown tarot reader Elliot Adam eases your mind about the unknown of tarot and reassures you that there's nothing to fear. I have always been fascinated by tarot readings and I wanted to learn to read myself, but choosing one of the many books for beginners was a tough task. There are some cards about which we (me) have preconceived ideas, but they are not what you think. I had no idea of the intracies that the art on the cards impart, and Elliot succinctly spells out what each card represents, the hidden treasures you will find if you "look" at the cards, and how to interpret their meanings when drawn. This book concentrates on the Rider-Waite-Smith tarot cards, by far the most well known, and as the sub-heading of his book says, "How to Give a Positive Reading in Any Situation", it's comforting to know that all is not doom and gloom. Most of this book is dedicated to each and every card in the deck, as to their meanings and in-depth descriptions, then there is a How to Use the Cards section where he explains Tarot Spreads from which you do readings. Anything from a one-card reading to the Celtic Cross Spread, Extended Celtic Cross (my guess would be that you'd have to be very experienced for this one!) and a very helpful Appendix. Elliot's gentle manner makes for an interesting read, even if you have to refer back to areas you can't remember—there is a lot to retain for future readings. Looks like I'm in for a lot of fun!
