The Food You Crave - Luscious Recipes for a Healthy Life
by Ellie Krieger
The Taunton Press
ISBN 1-60085-021-9
Published January 2008 - Hardcover - 316 pages - $28.00

Model-turned-dietician/nutritionist Ellie Krieger, shares her recipes which will satisfy your every food craving, but in a healthy way.  Changing one's eating habits from bad to good often isn't easy without that awful feeling of been deprived.  I like Ellie's point: "As a true food lover and a dietician, I have always said, to get people to eat well, don't say a word about health, just cook fantastic food for them."  I couldn't agree more.  I believe that the sayings "it's good for you, eat it" and "it's healthy, eat it," immediately has a psychological negative reaction in many people.  Just cook good and healthy food and serve it up.  Ellie also gives a very helpful "Essential Nutrients for Your Good Health" chart so you know the benefits of what you eat.  In this book she covers Breakfast; Nibbles & Noshes; Soups & Sandwiches; Main & Side Salads; Pasta, Pizza & Grains; The Main Course; Sides, and Desserts.  By using mostly fresh and good quality foods, half the battle to be healthy is won.  Recipes for dishes that don't-sound-healthy-but-in-this-instance-are, include: Apple-Pecan Muffins; Southwestern Hash and Eggs; Pesto Potato Salad; Spaghetti with Turkey Meatballs in Spicy Tomato Sauce; Macaroni and Four Cheeses; Pork Medallions with Cherry Sauce; Sea Bass with Tomato, Olives, and Capers (this sounds healthy); Banana Cream Pie; Mocha Cake with Mocha Cream Cheese Frosting, and Chocolate Egg Cream.  We really have run out of excuses to eat badly, and with these delicious (and healthy, sshhhh) recipes, there's no need to eat the wrong foods.  I loved her variety of salads and soups.  We owe it to ourselves and to our families to eat properly.
Ellie is the host of Food Network's Healthy Appetite.
Illustrated.  Nutritional guides.
Conclusion - An essential cookbook in every home.  Fabulous.
