Being from this part of the world myself, I was curious to see what foods were presented as "Southern African" foods. My turf is South Africa, not some of the other neighboring countries. In this book, as in the others in this series, you can read about not only South Africa, but also Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Namibia, Botswana, Lesotho and Swaziland. [What about Malawi?] You'll learn about the animals who live there, the different cultures, languages, geographical differences, the history, and of course, the foods. Historically, Africans ate a different diet from the white South Africans. However, that may have changed somewhat, as I never prepared pap (a porridge-like staple) or samp, but I did have rusks, sosaties, bobotie, pumpkin fritters (love these but they were never, ever, made from canned pumpkin!), biryani, and milk tart (yum yum). I'm going to have to try these recipes again one of these days. Don't forget that this series of cookbooks featuring food from various countries around the world, is aimed primarily at children.
Conclusion - Another interesting book suitable for all ages.
