Beating Around the Bush
I had just read a few junky books so I was looking forward to some uplifting writing for a change. Mr. Buchwald is always reliable for a sharp eye and an even sharper tongue. This book is a collection of essays on politicians, corporations, the media, and the like. Everyday observations. If you didn't know, Art Buchwald is the Washington Post columnist, and also a Pulitzer Prize winner. These satirical essays are from his famous columns, and as a sampling of what's on offer, consider these chapters: Which God is Your God?; The FBI Changes Its Ways; Between Iraq and a Hard Place; Yelling at the TV; I Won't Be Home for Christmas; Wal-Mart; Saving Britney's Marriage; Who Killed Jesus, and so much more. What I love about essays is that you can pick a chapter to read without necessarily finishing the book in one or two sittings. I love to save some stories for other days.
