By now we all know Bono is the campaigner for less advantaged people in Africa and for the eradication of AIDS, and we all need to put our two cents in. No matter how "bad" things seem in this country, it doesn't even scratch the surface in comparison to other parts of the world. We need to thank our lucky stars for what we have (and boy, we do have a lot!) and do something for someone else. It's the human thing to do. Irish pop star Bono has long been the spokesman for those in need, and when he speaks, we should listen, for he exudes compassion and caring, two things most human beings are born with, so why not share them with others less fortunate? This book is his speech at a national prayer breakfast for politicians and faith leaders in Washington DC back in 2006, and is illustrated by the photographs he took in Ethiopia during his first trip there in 1986. In his speech he quotes the Bible, quotes numbers of dying and suffering people, and what we can do to help. I was particularly moved by this: "...united in the belief that where you live should no longer determine whether you live." I come from Africa; I've seen the devastation and poverty, and I've always asked myself 'what makes me a "better" person than the next?' Nothing. We're all on this earth together, and there's no need not to share. It's that simple, in my opinion. Bono is asking the American government for an additional one percent of the federal budget. I wished he asked the American people to stop wasting. All royalties earned from the sale of this book are being donated to the ONE Campaign to make poverty history. Visit the ONE Campaign website.
I'd love to know how this book has sold and how much it's raised. I'm no Bono, but I'm trying to do my bit through my book projects, but no publisher seems to want to help me. Why not?
Conclusion - Please buy and read this book, knowing that you'll learn something and be helping someone at the same time.
