Motel 6, Los Angeles, CA This had to be the bargain of the year.  $56.99 per night (incl. tax) in the heart of Hollywood!  A few blocks away (0.38 mi) from the Red Line on the subway (Hollywood & Highland), this is the perfect location for a tourist in Los Angeles.  The hotel was a little rickety but just fine.  Hollywood Boulevard is within spitting distance and so is Grauman's Chinese Theatre, the Kodak Theatre, souvenir stores, the walk of fame, the subway station, bus lines, and so much more.  The Red Line on the subway will take you to Universal Studios and is just a stop or two away.  I highly recommended using this Motel 6—this was the third time I had stayed there and it's so central.  I also got complimentary coffee in the morning downstairs in the foyer. Red Roof Inn, Chicago, ILL What a wonderful location in the heart of Chicago.  Lovely building a block off Michigan Ave (Magnificent Mile) and on many bus routes, and within walking distance of so many attractions such as the Hancock Center Observatory and the Water Tower and many top-of-the-range department stores.  Go the other way and you'll see the Wrigley Building and the Chicago River.  I even saw Alan Alda being interviewed on radio at the viewing window of the WGN Radio 720am building!  My room was terribly cramped and had a hairdryer and iron and ironing board. Harrah's, Las Vegas, NV I booked through booking.com and got a great rate for this lovely old hotel slap bang in the middle of the Strip.   Very convenient to all sights.  The room was huge and quiet.  The bathroom was nice and roomy.  We got a complimentary breakfast (pastry/roll and coffee at Starbucks) which was nice. Stratosphere, Las Vegas, NV A long way off from the center of things but nice and quiet.  Superb view of the Strip and colorful lights below.  Take advantage of riding the rollercoaster and rides "outside" the building high above the ground, if you dare!  Room was comfortable if not a little confusing to find.
