To be quite honest, I'd never come across the Sweet Potato Queen series of books. Hadn't heard of them either. I found this one after doing a search at my library for a new book on humor. Now, many don't think there's much humor in aging, me included, but for those who go along with the flow, you're going to enjoy this look at what we women do to hold back the march of time. I didn't think I could stomach much more on the subject of getting old, but Jill Conner Browne had me at "prolly", and I didn't look back. Hers is a very funny look at everyday life, the suggestions, the "remedies", the lengths gals (and guys) will go to (sometimes unashamedly) in an attempt to stem the tide, and all with a dose of Southern levity. It's a great read and she reminisces about her youth and the times back then, the fashions, and more. But, whatever you do, don't miss the part about Robert at the Y gym - I cracked up. This series of rants is about the people she knows to whom odd things happen or the odd things they say and do, and often told with Southern grammar, spellin', and pronunciation. I haven't had so much fun or so many laughs in who knows how long! Am I glad I now know about the Sweet Potato Queens!
