Even though I've lived in the southwest for four years, I'm still coming to grips with the cooking aspect. I don't know that much about it but I do like learning about what goes into southwestern cuisine. I know chili plays a large role. The thing is, I don't have my own place and can't let my hair down, so to speak, and try things. I try here and there but it's not the same as having your own kitchen. So, I make do with eating out a little and indulging in the most fabulous of cookbooks. As you might know from my other cookbook reviews, I adore one-pot meals, so slow cooking appeals to me no end. The cover of this book is enticing enough - I love the tableware. Slow cookers never really went out of style, at least with those who use them correctly, and often. They make the cooking process so much easier. Authors Tammy and Theresa start off with information on a few essentials like Mexican cheese, herbs, beans, and such. Courses in this book are: Starters; Soups; Stews & Chilis; Poultry Entrées; Pork Entrées; Beef Entrées; Vegetarian Entrées; Side Dishes, and Bread and Desserts. Some of the yummy-sounding meals are, Tortilla Soup, Tequila Chicken, Green Chili Chicken, Mango Habanero Pork Chops, and Machaca. Lots of lovely flavorful meals lie ahead. No nutritional guides. Illustrated.
