Indian food is one of my top three favorite foods in the world, and there's nothing more I enjoy than going out for a great Indian meal.  I love the flavors and the memories they evoke.  Cooking teacher and India native Ruta Kahate, has put together fifty recipes using five basic and obtainable spices which will help expand your "what to make for supper" dilemmas.  (Not all of her recipes call for all five spices, sometimes just a few are used.)  Entertaining will be a breeze using any one of these different dishes.  Ruta's Contents include a concise Indian food and cooking segment, and: Vegetables; Dals (Pulses and Beans); Beef and Lamb; Chicken and Eggs; Seafood; Salads and Raitas; Rice and Bread; Sweets, and A Perfect Cup of Chai.  The 5 spices?  I'll not spoil it for you, but I will say that you can pick them up at your supermarket or health store, i.o.w. they're easy to find.  I plan to try these recipes and not limit my Indian food repertoire to chicken curry: A Simple Cabbage Stir-Fry; Black-Eyed Peas in a Spicy Goan Curry; Lamb Meatballs in a Spicy Malabari Curry; Mild Fish Stew with Potatoes, and Shrikhand with Yogurt Cheese, Saffron, and Pistachios.  I've never had Chai (believe it or not) but I do love tea (the English way), and so I'm tempted to try her Ginger Chai.  The spicy tomato sauce (page 26) can be used in a variety of other dishes as well, I would think.  Do consider Ruta's menu ideas as inspiration.

Conclusion - Something different and delicious-sounding.
