The Silver Palate Cookbook (25th Anniversary)
A bargain of a cookbook - 452 pages for just $19.95! This is the 25th Anniversary edition and it will be a welcome book in anyone's kitchen. Authors Julee Rosso and Sheila Lukins ran a gourmet shop in Manhattan in the 1980s before putting together their runaway success The Silver Palate Cookbook, changing the way Americans cooked at home. Contents include: To Begin a Great Evening; Soups On; Pasta Perfect; The Main Course; Great Garden Vegetables; Salads; Cheeses and Breads; Sweets, and The Brunch Bunch. Firstly though, you can read "The Story of the Silver Palate" which just goes to show you how things can turn on a dime. Recipes that beg to be tried and enjoyed are: Minted Sweet Pea and Spinach Soup; Winter Borscht; Curried Cream of Chicken Soup; Linguine with Tomatoes and Basil (and Brie!); Chicken Monterey; Baked Striped Bass with Fennel; Oxtail Stew (my favorite); Six-Onion Soup; Mediterranean Chicken Salad; Tarragon Chicken Salad; Date-Nut Bread; Zucchini Bread; Chunky Apple Walnut Cake, and Fig and Raspberry Tart. I really fancy Mocha Mousse too. There are so many recipes you'll never run out of what to serve for dinner. Sauces, Pâtés, Cakes, Drinks, Stocks, and on and on. The first section is also extremely interesting and features very tempting appetizers, and throughout the book you'll come across many Silver Palate classic dishes. Great job on coming back strong 25 years later! Sheila's illustrations abound in the book. Illustrated. No nutrional guides.
