Seafood is one of my favorite foods, so I was very happy to come across this Thunder Bay title. Not being a very adventurous cook when it comes to preparing fish, I found myself making notes of recipes I simply had to attempt soon. Having just been at the fish market in Seattle a week before, I was more than curious so see what was on offer in this beautifully illustrated book. The Thai Fish Cakes appealed to me as I usually make mine from canned mackerel. Others that appealed to me were the "Three Ways" features, Salmon Coulibiac, Crispy Fried Fish with Chili and Cucumber, Goan Fish Curry (slurp), Escabeche (slurp, slurp), Lobster Soup with Zucchini and Avocado, or a Shrimp Pot Pie. The Seafood Risotto is also mouth-watering as is the Paella. Because seafood is so available almost everywhere (I live in southern Colorado and see mussels, lobster, shrimp, clams, and salmon in most neighborhood stores) in the States, there really is no excuse for not being adventurous - perhaps the price sometimes can be a bit off-putting. I doubt fish is much, if any, cheaper at the coast though. However enticing this book is, I cannot bring myself to even consider eating eel, jellyfish or sea urchin - there are however, recipes for these. Thankfully, the recipes often offer a "fish substitution" with alternatives. Phew!
