Paging through this book is a wonderful way to take a quick trip around the world.  A gastromonic trip that is.  It's interesting and educational to see what other people consider "comfort food", and these are recipes and stories collected from many places, including the States.  If you've travelled, and I believe everyone who can, should, then hopefully you've tried many different "foreign" dishes and meals.  You may be familiar with many of the recipes in this book but haven't tried making them yourself.  Do try, as it may bring back fond memories.  I'll never forget my first canoli in Sicily.  This book covers Snacks, Starters and Salads; Soups and Stews; Eggs; Pasta and Noodles; Fish and Shell Fish; Poultry; Meat; Vegetables and Sides; Baked Goods and Sweets, and Drinks.  I think that just about covers everything there is to eat!  I love the look and sound of these recipes as comfort foods: Golden Potato Latkes; German Split Pea Soup; Smoked Pork and Sauerkraut Stew (Poland); Macaroni and Cheese with Ham; Figaretti's "Godfather 11" Linguine (yummy); Chicken Tikka Masala (British/Indian and one of my all time fave recipes); Filets Mignon with Mushroom Sauce; Fennel Baked in Cream (oh, heavens!) and Dulce de Leche Cake (Dominican Republic).  There are many recipes that don't require hard-to-find ingredients.  As much as I adore Huevos Rancheros, and am constantly on the lookout for the "best ever", I think I'll give the one in this book a miss.
Beautifully illustrated.  No nutritional guides.
Conclusion - Enticing and adventurous.  A wonderful addition to any kitchen.
