Big Shoes - In Celebration of Dads and Fatherhood
by Al Roker and Friends
Hyperion
ISBN 1-4013-0171-1
Published May 2005 - Hardcover - 195 pages - $19.95

Al Roker and friends got together to get us thinking about our fathers, good, bad, or indifferent.  We all have one, or had one, in one form or another, and this is "an honest, human look at fathers and fatherhood over a couple of generations from many different perspectives".  Friends are Jimmy Buffett, Kelly Ripa, Donald Trump, Andrew Cuomo, Billie Jean King, and Bonnie Raitt among many others.  All have a story or anecdote about their fathers which makes for fun reading.  You'll notice little (or large) things about other fathers that you'll recognize in your own, or in someone else's father.  Fathers are sometimes overlooked as the mother usually is the dominant figure - here the selection of people chosen to write had great and/or fun fathers.  Not so for many people who'll never get the chance to write about their fathers.  If you have a good, kind, or funny dad, relish the fact and make the most of him.  Many of us weren't that lucky.
A portion of the proceeds from this book will go to the National Fatherhood Initiative, "which encourages and promotes greater involvement of fathers in their children's lives".  Could you step into your father's "big shoes"?  Or would you want to?
Conclusion - Interesting.
