In today's fragile and economically trying times, most of us have to cut back and think of ways to stretch our budgets. Making and selling crafts is one way to go. "The potholders in this book are pretty and practical, but they're really miniature canvases for experimenting with yummy fabrics and cool-looking textile techniques," it says in the Introduction. Don't be put off, especially if you're a beginner, as there are "easy" potholders to be made. You'll be delighted to know that there are other items to create other than just "potholders." I'd never before seen panhandles (what a good idea, especially for cast iron handles!) or such pretty trivets. Everything you need to know (and need in terms of tools) is taken care of, from stitches to beading to techniques. You can make matching sets for your kitchen or as gifts, or even come up with a whole mix-match eccentric collection. I loved these projects: Queen Anne's Lace (p 48), Stackin' Napkin (p 50), and Sew Romantic (p 108). I also liked the rectangle shape of Kitchen Silhouette (p 110). I think this sums things up: "...you'll find the perfect solution for recycling old sweaters and table linens, discover a nifty way to showcase a beloved recipe, and learn all sorts of new ways to hang your potholders with pizzazz." Don't forget the templates at the back of the book.
Conclusion - Great ideas for home use or for gifts.
