My Word Is My Bond - A Memoir
by Sir Roger Moore

Published November 2008 - Hardcover - 336 pages - $27.95

Roger Moore has always exuded the very air of a British gentleman, and his memoir is an eloquent and humorous recollection of his 81 years.  I couldn't believe he is 81!  Mr. Moore, or Sir Roger Moore as he is now recognized, has the ability to always look sauve, sophisticated, and never "old".  His book is full of memories of his boyhood in England, his army stint, his time RADA, stage shows, and television and films he's appeared in.  He also takes time to recall some other well-knowns who were coming up in the ranks with him.  Many tend to think of "James Bond" upon hearing the name Roger Moore, but he's so much more.  Back in the day, he worked with the likes of Noël Coward, Gracie Fields, Tony Curtis, Joan Collins, Christopher Lee, Lee Van Cleef, and countless others.  Moore was one of the last to have a seven-year contract at MGM, from which he was let go.  He talks about the difficulties going from film star to television star and the stigma attached to doing so at the time.  He nevertheless coped and succeeded in both mediums.  He discusses getting the TV series The Saint, The Persuaders, and the role of James Bond.  Bond fans will enjoy his descriptions of the 007 movies he made, and I particularly liked that he mentions (a nod) so many crew people.  I didn't know Moore was married twice before his lengthy betrothal to Luisa, and subsequently to his fourth wife, the lovely Kristina.  It's refreshing to also read of Mr. Moore's humanitarian interest and efforts with UNICEF, moving enough to make me want to also take part.  Also, his incredible travels around the world, both for pleasure, work, and UNICEF, is envious.  Visit the UNICEF website.
Conclusion - Enlightening, entertaining, historical, and a most enjoyable read.
