The Mexican Mama's Kitchen
by Sofia Larrinúa-Craxton
Thunder Bay Press
ISBN 1-59223-422-4
Published August 2005 - Hardcover - 160 pages - $12.95

This is another in the "Mama's Kitchen" series and is just as informative and interesting as the other two I've reviewed - The Italian Mama's Kitchen and The Greek Mama's Kitchen.  There is also the Jewish Mama;s Kitchen which I've not read.  Author Sofia Larrinúa-Craxton gives us a little information about Mexican meals and her family which I found interesting.  Meals in this book include breaksfast; lunch; main courses; beans, potatoes and salads; sauces; evening snacks, and desserts and celebrations.  Most Americans are very familiar with Mexican food as it's readily available in many restaurants and the ingredients can be found in most supermarkets - we've all heard of tortillas, refried beans, and tacos - but this book offers so much more.  Dishes such as Lamb (or pork) in Adobo; Tuna and Crab Salpicón Salad; Saturday Guacamole, Mole Enchiladas, and Wedding Cookies had my mouth watering and my tummy rumbling.  The Zucchini Cake sounds very intriguing and I'll have to give it a try, as does the Lime Ice Cream.  Heaven.  Not every recipe is illustrated but the ones that are, are yummy.  The soups are hearty and inspiring - great for the upcoming winter.  She also shows us how to make fresh tortillas.
The Mexican Mama's Kitchen may be purchased and/or ordered through your local bookstore.
Conclusion - A must-have book in this collection.
