Hallelujah! The Welcome Table
by Maya Angelou
Random House
ISBN 1-4000-6289-6
Published September 2004 - Hardcover - 221 pages - $29.95

I've long been a fan of Ms. Angelou and this book was a much anticipated "new read" for me.  It's a combination of biographical stories and her famous recipes.  The recipes relate to certain events in her life and the book is so much fun.  Remember when a memorable meal brings back memories, good and bad?  Maya Angelou has the enviable ability of being able to write stories that evoke the emotions.  Her autobiographical books (six of them in the series) are a pure joy to read and I would encourage you to seek them out as they tell an incredibly interesting story.  She really is a woman who has lived her life and I can't wait for her next installment.  This book has enticing and mouth-watering recipes which follow stories like "Momma's Grandbabies Love Cracklin' Cracklin'", "Fowl Communication", "Ready-to-wear Tripe", "Wilted Lettuce", and "Bread Pudding".  If you've never read Maya Angelou, this is a great book to try her out - I'm sure you'll enjoy her little anecdotes and want to read more about this inspirational and motivated woman.  Interesting recipes of hers, and friends, some of which were devised especially for friends of hers.
Read my reviews of A Song Flung Up to Heaven and Letter to My Daughter.
Conclusion - Delightful.
