Lucinda's Authentic Jamaican Kitchen
by Lucinda Scala Quinn
John Wiley & Sons
ISBN 0-471-74935-4
Published October 2006 - Hardcover - 127 pages - $17.95

Pop a Bob Marley CD into your music system, sit back with a refreshing Lime Squash, and wander through this delightful Jamaican cookbook and drool at the gorgeous dishes.  Ms. Lucinda has put together a wonderful selection of Jamaican recipes - she's been going to this island since the age of two - which we can try for ourselves.  With the world as small as it is, there's no reason we can't sample as many foods from as many places as possible.  She says, "The Jamaican cooking style springs from the many ethnic traditions that define Jamaica's culture today - Arawak Indian, Spanish, African, English, Creole, East Indian, Middle Eastern, Mexican, and Chinese."  No wonder it's so diverse!  Her book offers Snacks, Sides, and Soups; Main Dishes and Sauces, and Desserts and Drinks.  Beautifully illustrated throughout, you'll come across delectable recipes like: Codfish Fritters; Pumpkin Vegetable Curry Stew; Oxtail Soup (I adore oxtail stew); Jerk Pork; Curry Chicken (one of my top-five meals); Stewed Fish (so easy to make); Mango Chutney (a perfect accompaniment to curry dishes), and Banana Cake (another favorite of mine).  If you're making Pumpkin Soup, and you can find pig's tail, let me know!  I love islands and now Jamaica is most definitely on my list.  The introduction is also interesting - a taste of Jamaica.  No nutritional guides.
Conclusion - Scrumptuous and tantalizing.

"To write a book like this little Jamaican cookbook, means you hope that jamaicaphiles and novices alike appreciate it.  I am thrilled that Adrienne not only acknowledged the unusual recipes in the book, but also absorbed some of that island spirit, because as Bob Marley so keenly observed, "who feels it, knows it."  Thank-you for your time and care with the book."
