Cooking from The Hip - Fast, Easy, Phenomenal Meals
I like this lady's attitude. She's quite right when she says "the families who cook together and spend time together at the table are healthier and happier". I also like that she uses leftovers and that her recipes don't take a month of Sundays to prepare. My kind of cooking. The way the book has been put together is also rather fun: Fast; Easy; Fun, and Phenomenal. In a nutshell. Each section is divided into Appetizers; Soups and Salads; Main Dishes; Side Dishes, and Dessert, which means that there's a whole host of meals to choose from. Here and there you'll come across a "Cat's Note" which is a helpful hint. Some of her recipes that appealed to me were: Sweet Potato and Scallion Latkes (never used sweet potatoes before); Salmon-Topped Hash; Curried Lentils with Butternut Squash (two great ingredients); Saffron Potato Omelet; Lemon, Butter, and Sugar Crepes; Porchetta (sounds positively scrumptuous), and Glazed Baby Carrots and Fresh Dill. Ms. Cora has also given us a make-your-own Crème Fraîche recipe which has got to be cheaper than store-bought. A great idea is the Avocado Tzatziki on page 28 - I can't wait to try it.
