More than sixty of the city's best restaurants are profiled in this book on Charleston's eateries. Author/columnist and Cordon Bleu chef, Holly Herrick, who lives in Charleston, has put together this charmingly inviting book on the beautiful city and what it has to offer in the way of food and restaurants. Herrick says, "Restaurants were chosen for inclusion based first and foremost on the high quality of the food they consistently deliver but also for their unique personalities". Her book covers Starters; Salads; Soups; Sandwiches; Pasta; Seafood; Beef, Lamb, Pork, and More; Poultry Perch, and Just Desserts. Along with a little story of each chosen restaurant, we're given one of their recipes and are invited to "feel free to make them just as the chefs do or to modify them and make them your own". Always a good thing for those who love to experiment in their kitchens. The chosen restaurants also offer their addresses, telephone numbers, websites (when and if available) along with the name of the Executive Chef and/or owner/s. Handy for when you plan your trip to Charleston. Some of the recipes I found appealing and wouldn't mind trying myself, include: Creamy Garlic Hummus and Mediterranean Olive Tapenade (Crave Kitchen and Cocktails); Onion Soup Gratinée (39 Rue de Jean); Bowen's Island Frogmore Stew; Venetian Marinated Snapper (Fulton Five), and Guinness and Tangerine Braised Beef Short Ribs with Cauliflower Sauce (Red Sky Grill). [ Questions: For the cauliflower sauce, the Instructions say cook cauliflower and cream for 25-30 minutes. Then drain and purée cauliflower with "just enough of the cream" to form a smooth purée. Add the cream in batches. But, if you've cooked the cauliflower in the cream, how much, and where's the cream for the food processor step? Also, won't the cream break down if cooked for so long (25-30 minutes) with the cauliflower?]
Whether it's fine dining you're after or a pizza and a beer, or anything in between, these pages will delight your senses and tempt your travel bug.
Beautifully illustrated with restaurant scenes, not much with food. No nutritional guides.

Conclusion - You can live anywhere in this country and enjoy food from these Charleston restaurants. And you should!
