Thunder Bay Press have launched a great new series of cook books, called The Greek Mama's Kitchen, The Mexican Mama's Kitchen, The Italian Mama's Kitchen, and The Jewish Mama's Kitchen.  What a delight!  A wonderfully enticing description of where and how this 'mama' lives, which draws you in and captivates your mind - very olde world with a few modern conveniences and it sounds like the perfect place in which to retire - everything you need, right there, fresh and wholesome.  We're treated to appetizers, or mezes, like Eggplant Dip, the traditional Tzatsiki, and tiny Stuffed Grape Leaves.  Then there are soups, main courses (which has lamb, fish, pork, chicken, beef, quail, and the ubiquitous Moussaka), vegetables and salads, followed by eggs, pasta, pilafs, breads and savory pies, desserts, sweet things, and festivals.  Ingredients that are prominently featured include chickpeas, feta cheese, grape leaves, and of course, good olive oil.  The ingredients appear to be readily available and not too outrageous.  The soups are hearty and would be wonderful in the winter, especially the Pot of Vegetables and Ham one.   Each dish has both its Greek name and the English translation.  The book is nicely presented and looks like it was printed on old paper that was found lying around the kitchen - great touch.  There are gorgeous color photos, a glossary, and an index.
