God - The Failed Hypothesis - How Science Shows That God Does Not Exist
by Victor J. Stenger
Prometheus Books
ISBN 1-59102-481-1
Published January 2007 - Hardcover - 294 pages - $28.00

My philosophy on this subject is: Because there is no conclusive and concrete proof that God exists, just live and let live.  And mind your own business.  If God is about love, I fail to comprehend the continuous and bloody "religious" wars that have been going on since the year dot.  And I find this incredibly distressing.  More and more we are seeing books coming out about how God cannot possibly exist - science proves it - so I was keen to see what Victor J. Stenger had to say.  Firstly, however, I have to say I have a scant understanding of science or mathematics, and so a lot of what he has to say (and prove) went right over the top of my head.  He says in his preface: "My analysis will be based on the contention that God should be detectable by scientific means simply by virtue of the fact that he is supposed to play such a central role in the operation of the universe and the lives of humans," and "...if God exists, he must appear somewhere within the gaps or errors of scientific models."  He also says, "We have no evidence for Bigfoot, the Abominable Snowman, and the Loch Ness Monster, so we do not believe they exist.  If we have no evidence or other reason for believing in God, then we can be pretty sure that God does not exist."  I found the book very "wordy" and above my comprehension, and I didn't find it that easy to read.  I'm sure it will appeal to those with a better understanding and appreciation of the sciences, and to those who are also trying to fathom out whether or not God exists.  I have to admit that I did not finish this book - it was way above my station.
Conclusion - Interesting, to say the least.
