It's also my goal to get families to sit down together to enjoy a home-cooked meal.  Chef Garvin's second book offers many recipes which don't take an age to prepare, which is what so many home cooks are looking for - time to cook.  Also, with the economy in as bad a shape as it is, the time and money spent on eating out will have to be severely harnessed.  If one can prepare affordable and healthy meals at home, why wouldn't you?  My argument is, if you don't have time to cook for your family, why'd you have one?  I have a feeling Chef Garvin would agree.  His book mentions how important it is to spend time with the children, not only eating, but also listening.  We're offered these selections: No All-Nighters (Meals in Minutes); Get In and Get Out (Lunchtime Favorites); Workin' It Out (Healthier Dishes); All the Fixings (Veggies, Salads, and Pastas); Don't Be Scared (Recipes for Beginners); Fire Up the Grill (Backyard Barbecue Favorites); The Sweetest Part (Easy Desserts), and Make Some, Buy Some (Family Day Specials) - a great variety to help all cooks.  I really fancy these recipes: Pork Tenderloin in a Tomato Cream Sauce (sounds yummy); Herb-Crusted Parmesan Chicken Breasts; Chicken Salads; Grilled Halibut with Garlic and Thyme (we've got to eat more fish!), and Mini Pear Tarts.  So much to choose from, it's not going to be hard to find something suitable and quick to make anymore.  I think Chef Garvin is onto a good thing with this book.

Partially illustrated.  No nutritional guides.
Conclusion - A spectacular variety of dishes that aren't daunting.
