Observations In An Occupied Wilderness
by Terry Falke
Chronicle Books
ISBN 978-0-8118-5098-8
Published October 2006 - Hardcover - 75 pages - $50.00

There is barely a place left on Earth where we humans haven't touched down.  More's the pity.  Terry Falke's photographs clearly illustrate this point.  For so long the wide open spaces have been promoted as open landscapes, but Falke's photographs (in the footsteps of other notables such as Ansel Adams and Joel Sternfeld) clearly and intentionally show man's invasion.  For example, look at the photos on these pages: 6, 9, 37, and 54 among other wonderful images.  The starkness of the Southwest desert wilderness is still evident, but with perhaps a lick of humor, these photos will give pause for thought, disgust, concern, hope, or even admiration.  Falke's work eloquently points out the irony that abounds, which I found most enjoyable, if not alarming.
Conclusion - Interesting point of view.
