I love this book.  When I read "...we shy away from trying because we are afraid that our efforts won't create something worthwhile.  What if we fail?", this is exactly how I felt when I started doing art.  And then I felt that I was really no good and almost gave up a few times.  Artist/author Kateri Ewing's words in her Introduction brought tears to my eyes, and I couldn't wait to get started on her 21 intuitive watercolor lessons.  They are designed to help us discover our own unique artist within while creating works of beauty that we will share with others.  She says that "intuitive, process-based watercolor means that we create from a place of no expectations of how our finished artwork will look", which is a bit difficult for me at least, because I usually think I have something in mind before I start but haven't a clue!  Play, that's the way to go.  Just play and have some fun.  And, the great thing about starting these lessons is that you don't need a whole lot of supplies, just paper, a paintbrush, and some watercolor paint, and to show up each day for about 15 minutes at a time.  Her approach is not simply about painting, but also to acknowledge your tools and equipment, like a little ritual, but you don't have to follow her every word.  Just relax and drop paint onto some paper and let go.  "When we commit to a daily practice without expectations, our well can never run dry".  All through her lessons there are very helpful tips to remember for future paintings plus wonderful step-by-step pictures, and photos of other people's interpretations of each lesson.
