America's Ethnic Cuisines
Better Homes and Gardens (Meredith Books)
ISBN 0-696-21717-1
Published September 2003 - Hardcover - 288 pages - $29.95

With America long being known as a melting pot, it's logical to assume there'd be a complete mixture of foods as well.  Food from around the world make up this book which include Asian, Italian, Mexican, Indian, Caribbean, Mediterranean, Middle-Eastern, and Cajun & Creole.  Each ethnicity is divided into Appetizers, Soups & Salads, Entrées, and Desserts.  Although not individually illustrated, the book is nevertheless full of beautiful photos and quaint hand-drawn menus and suggestions.  Each country has a brief descriptive history of how it influenced American cuisine and also a little glossary of its foods.  Delicacies such as Rum-Glazed Ribs (Caribbean), Garlic Chutney (India), Chicken-Stuffed with Smoked Mozzarella, and Lemon Ice-cream (both from Italy), Chicken and Shrimp Tortilla Soup (Mexico), and Hot and Sour Soup (Asian) are featured.  None seem that difficult to prepare although a little pantry-stocking will come in handy.  There are nutrition facts for each recipe too.
Conclusion - A beautiful book crammed with good cooking ideas.
