The Deen Bros. Cookbook- Recipes from the Road
by Jamie and Bobby Deen and Melissa Clark
Meredith Books
ISBN 0-696-23396-8
Published April 2007 - Hardcover - 224 pages - $24.95

I've only seen Mama Deen twice on television.  Once on Oprah and once on Martha Stewart.  She was very entertaining on both occasions.  I've yet to see her sons Jamie and Bobby.  However, I was delighted to review their cookbook.  Essentially it's a cookbook featuring recipes from many restaurants around the country, which they've adapted.  (Why can't I get a job like this?)  It's divided into The South, The West, The Midwest, and The East.  (I'll do everything in between!)  The boys (I hope they don't mind being called that) start off in Key West, in particular at the Conch Republic Seafood Company.  Sautéed Spinach with Sweet Vidalia Onion (sounds like a great vegetable side dish) with Zest Grilled Grouper (fresh off the boat) and Mango Coconut Rice are their offerings.  There's a trip to Austin, Texas and Brownie Cakes with Rose Whipped Cream or Espresso Brownies are offered.  Also from Austin we get Dry-Rub Baby Back Ribs.  I adore lamb so I was thrilled to learn that much of the country's lamb comes from Colorado, my home state.  (I've been here four years and never knew this.)  Grilled Rosemary Lamb Chops is what we get.  From California we get Roasted Lemon Chicken with Red Grapes.  From Seattle we get White Bean Soup and from Wisconsin we are treated to Baked Macaroni Cheese.  From Missouri we are offered Bratwurst and Granny Smith Apple Salad.  In New York they got Strawberry Cannoli Parfaits and Risotto Cakes.  Lobster Rolls from Maine and the yummy-sounding Crab and Artichoke Quiche from Washington D.C.  There are fabulous spices and new ideas to flavor up many of your own recipes.  No nutritional guides and beautifully illustrated.  This book will also make searching for somewhere to eat on your next vacation so much fun.  Visit the Deens at their website at www.ladyandsons.com.
Conclusion - Exciting dishes you can really go crazy over.
