Glamour, Interrupted - How I Became the Best-Dressed Patient in Hollywood
by Steven Cojocaru
Collins
ISBN 0-06-079136-0
Published January 2008 - Hardcover - 159 pages - $23.95

Cojo has always fascinated me.  His over the top enthusiasm is infectious, and his good fashion taste is usually spot on.  He know his onions does Cojo.  I enjoy him on Entertainment Tonight, and I have to say, I'm so happy he's healthy and back on track.  However, this might not have turned out so.  A few years ago he was in serious denial about having polycystic kidney disease and had to undergo a kidney transplant.  In his book he describes both the denial and the transplant in his usual effervescent way, but the fear is palpable.  He never lets go of his fun side throughout, and while reading this book, it's as though you can hear him telling you his story.  He tells of how he got the chance to reconnect with his parents before and after his surgery (they moved in with him to become his caregivers during his recuperation).  Recovery was not easy, and neither was the dialysis he had to go through.  He also tells of the bravery and unending kindness of his friends, in particular Abby, who gave her kidney to him.  Also, of the postop drug-induced state he was constantly in and out of.  But, horror of horrors, Cojo had to go through all of it again!  His harrowing account, helped by his trademark wit, is hard to imagine, and I'm sure will go a long way in guiding and informing others who may be in the same boat.  Above all, Cojo learned who Cojo is.  One sentence that made my eyes fill with tears and brought a lump to my throat, was: "...we were sitting shiva for Annabelle."  You'll see what I mean when you get to it.
Conclusion - Frightening, uplifting, and comforting.  Bravo, Cojo.
