The Book Club Cookbook
by Judy Gelman and Vicki Levy Krupp
Jeremy P. Tarcher/Penguin
ISBN 1-58542-322-X
Published May 2004 - Softback - 510 pages - $15.95

This is such a fun idea and one to take your book club to a new level.  The authors (also passionate readers) Judy Gelman and Vicki Levy Krupp, wanted to put together a book that "united our passions" and thus started the matching of books with foods highlighted in literature.  They decided to contact book clubs around the country and were soon swamped with what book clubs were serving at their meetings.  And, they discovered, what a completely diverse bunch of book clubs there were out there.  In this incredible ensemble, they've included fiction, classics, nonfiction, and more.  Take for instance the first book featured: The Age of Innocence by Edith Wharton - the recipe is for Roman Punch; or, The Emperor of Ocean Park by Stephen L. Carter - the recipe is Crab Cakes with Spicy Remoulade; or, The Weight of Water by Anita Shreve - the recipe is for Swedish Pancakes; or, Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy - the recipe is Wild Mushrooms on Toast; and, The Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck - the recipes are One Main Street Cafe's Artichoke, Jalapeno Spread with Tomato Bruschetta Topping.  Some of the other books featured include The Great Gatsby, House of Sand and Fog, Memoirs of a Geisha, and Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone.
Conclusion - Great fun and informative.  Admittedly, I didn't get to read this book in its entirety. BookBrowser
