The Bon Appétit Cookbook
by Barbara Fairchild
John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
ISBN 0-7645-9686-1
Published August 2006 - Hardcover - 792 pages - $34.95

Oh my goodness, what a huge book!  Just shy of eight hundred pages and a trillion recipes to choose from, it's doubtful that you'll not find what you're looking for.  It's hard to believe the lovely Bon Appétit magazine hasn't put out a cookbook before this one, and this book came out to coincide with the magazine's 50th anniversary.  The book starts off with the "Well-Stocked Kitchen" section (you don't need everything they list but some items would be useful).  There's also a well-stocked pantry, refrigerator and freezer, and an extremely useful section of cooking terminology and how-to.  So now there's no excuse for not getting yourself into the kitchen and getting creative.  The rest of the book is made up as follows: Breakfast and Brunch; Appetizers; Soups, Stews, and Chilies; Salads, Sandwiches, and Burgers; Pastas and Pizzas; Rice, Grains, and Beans; Meatless Main Courses; Meats; Chicken, Turkey, and other Poultry; Fish and Shellfish; Potatoes; Vegetables; Breads, Jams, and Condiments; Cakes; Pies and Tarts; Custards and Puddings; Fruit Desserts; Frozen Desserts; Cookies, Brownies, and Candy, and Drinks.  Some of the recipes that interested me were: Macadamia Nut Waffles with Papaya and Strawberries; Leek, Potato, and Tarragon Soup; Greek Orzo and Shrimp Salad; Grilled Tuscan Pork Rib with Rosemary Coating and Red Bell Pepper Relish; Green Beans with Walnuts, Lemon, and Parsley; Cornbread with Bacon and Green Onions; Dutch Chocolate-Mint Cheesecake (I would use graham crackers for the crust, not chocolate wafers), Gingerbread with Vanilla Ice Cream and Exotic Caramel Sauce; Praline-Chocolate Crème Brûlée, and Mint Brownies.  And there are so many more delicious dishes.  Partially illustrated.  No nutritional guides.
Conclusion - An infinite collection of useful recipes that everyone can use.
