"My Teenage Son's Goal in Life is to Make Me Feel 3,500 Years Old" and Other Thoughts on Parenting
by Dave Barry
Ndrews McMeel Publishing
ISBN 0-7407-1526-7
Published March 2001 - Hardcover - 108 pages - $9.95
These observations on parenting and parenthood come from very funny man, Dave Barry. So many parents will recognize so much he has to say about being a parent and dealing with whatever comes up in the life of babies and teenagers, and how to laugh at the same time. Barry shares with us some of what his own son did (inflatable sneakers, computer games, girls, etc.) which no doubt all parents have witnessed in one form or another. However, with Dave Barry, it becomes fodder for his humorous writings. I had to chuckle as I read so many things I've seen and heard (I'm not a parent) and I breathed many a sigh of relief that I didn't have to endure bringing up children. I loved the anecdote on page 26. You've got to read page 48. It's what I have thought about as well. A nice thought is on page 81—ha ha ha. Even though this book was published eleven years ago, much of it is still relevant today.
Conclusion - Be reminded of what parents go through. Your sense of humor will be tested!
